AIA Denver Housing Committee

The AIA Denver Housing Committee is a forum for architects who specialize in residential design. The committee follows current issues in codes, government regulations, evolving technology and current housing and marketing trends.

Committee Background and Mission

After a long hiatus, the AIA Denver Housing Committee reformed in spring of 2008.This forum for architects who specialize in residential building has since grown significantly and has taken on a number of important initiatives. The committee follows current issues in codes, government regulations, evolving technology and current housing and marketing trends. In addition to its business meetings, the committee hosts continuing education programs on a variety housing-related topicsfor interested members and non-members on an almost-monthly basis.

Members and Meetings

Members of the committee represent a diverse group of architects and designers who vary in area of practice, background, firm size and specialty. Everyone with an interest in residential housing is encouraged to come check out the next meeting! Meetings generally take place the third Thursday of each month from 8 - 9 a.m. (continuing education program) and 9 - 10 a.m. (business meeting). Locations vary; visit the calendar for details. Committee Initiatives

Confluence - Creating an Inclusive Community: More than 100 people were in attendance at this 2009 Colorado Architecture Month event focused on issues surrounding affordable housing. A similar program currently is being planned for 2010. Check back soon for more information!

How to Work with an Architect: Another 2009 Architecture Month event helped to educate the public about the importance of hiring an architect and best practices for a good working relationship. A  similar program currently is being planned for 2010. Check back soon for more information!

Architects’ Choice Awards: This subcommittee assists with the planning of an awards program for excellence residential architecture.

Continuing Education: The Housing Committee offers regular, free continuing education programs for members.

Denver Zoning Code: The committee is actively involved in the review and assessment of the new Denver Zoning Code and its impact on residential architecture and design. For more information about AIA Denver's work on the new Denver Zoning Code, click here.

Strengthening Partnerships: The committee has reached out to a number of allied organizations to enhance collaboration and communication, including Housing Colorado, Home Builders Association of Metro Denver, Denver Board of REALTORS®, Denver's Old House Society and more.
