Architecture Here & Now

April 5, 2014

AIA National President, Carl Elefante FAIA, FAPT, LEED AP was recently in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley (his first time to Aspen). In celebration of the tenth anniversary of hosting their Architecture Lecture Series, the Aspen Art Museum invited Elefante to moderate a discussion with a panel of four well-known architects in the Aspen Valley. AAM Panel Discssion Here and Now 4

The panelist included:

John Cottle FAIA – Partner and Principal of CCY Architects

Sarah Broughton AIA – Principal at Rowland & Broughton

Scott Lindenau FAIA – Design Principal at Studio BArchitecture+Interiors

Charles Cunniffe FAIA – Principal at Charles Cunniffe Architects

Topic – Architecture Here & Now – how has the design of our local environment evolved and where might we be headed.

The event drew a crowd of 150 people and was recorded and live streamed by Aspen Grass Roots TV.

Elefante began the discussion, saying “We are in the urban era globally…..Our future is the environment we are creating….All architecture is local, it is all in a place and the characteristics of those places shape what we do.” These statements set the tone for the panelists and the audience to reflect, share practices, respond to, and to think about how a sophisticated mountain town continues to honor and respect it’s high standards, while at the same time evolve together as a community.
