Design Like a Girl
The AIA Colorado J.E.D.I. Committee is looking forward to a second year offering the Design Like a Girl program to students here in Colorado. Working in collaboration with NOMA Colorado, Denver Public Schools, AIADC, and the District Architectural Foundation, we are seeking mentors to participate in the workshops this year.
Design Like a Girl introduces a diverse cohort of middle school girls to architecture and allied design professions. Three full-day workshops, on Fridays throughout the 2024-2025 school year, allow students to learn first-hand about these dynamic careers from local professional women and design students. Program participants are selected through an application process and engage in design activities, including sketching, model building, and presentations. There is no cost to girls to participate.
We are seeking female-identifying design professionals and students to guide, instruct, and inspire participants throughout each workshop. While we would love mentors to participate in all three workshops to get to know the participants, we understand that may not be possible. Multiple volunteer options are available.
We will have an all-mentor planning meeting on Friday, September 20th from 12pm – 1pm. Information for this meeting, taking place on Zoom, will be emailed to all volunteers prior to that.
Please reach out to Brittany Soler, Assoc. AIA, Sarah Goldblatt, AIA, or Anna Friedrich, Assoc. AIA.
