AIA College of Fellows
Being elected to the AIA’s College of Fellows is the highest individual honor that the Institute bestows on members short of the Institute’s Gold Medal. Elevation to Fellowship is recognition of an exemplary career having broad impact on the profession. In Colorado over 90 of our members have been elevated to Fellowship. This past year we were fortunate to have three new Fellows from Colorado; Paul C. Hutton, FAIA, Ned S. Kirschbaum, FAIA, and Andrew G. Nielsen, FAIA
Starting in January, the eight-member AIA Colorado / College of Fellows Nominating Committee will be meeting to discuss strategies of assuring recognition for our members and assisting those who are nominated for Fellowship. They will be reviewing and assisting those who have submitted in the past and identifying and encouraging those who have not. The committee’s task will be to identify nominees who have the best expectation of advancing to Fellowship and presenting them to the AIA Colorado Board for their endorsement.
For those of you who might be interested, keep in mind that elevation to Fellowship not only recognizes the achievements of the architect as an individual but also elevates before the public and the profession those architects who have made significant contributions to architecture and to society. Contributions can be made in design, preservation, planning, practice management, service to the profession through the AIA or other organizations, service to society or humanity – or a combination of these categories. The impact of those efforts usually extends well beyond local boundaries and has had influence regionally or nationally.
