Seeking: Director of Design at Radian

Location: Denver, CO

Compensation: $80,000-84,000.  Based on experience 

Experience: 8+/- years

Radian is a Denver-based non-profit architecture and urban design group that serves community advocates through a people-centered approach in the pursuit of social equity.

Radian exists to advocate, design and build. We are passionate about designing vibrant spaces, and implementing a new way of design that promotes empowerment and inclusivity among communities. Through architecture, urban planning and community engagement, our organization executes strategic planning to lessen the barrier for residents to access healthy food, high quality education, attainable housing and overall increase social equity. Radian takes a people-centered, place-based approach to every single one of our projects, in order to meet the unique needs of the people in one given location. We believe in collaborating with community members and organizations to strengthen local people power through capacity building and strategic partnerships.

The Director of Design role is a leadership position within the organization that focuses on design systems, procedures, and overall project delivery in our group.  In a directorial position, you will be required to take ownership over many responsibilities and initiatives that promote the success of Radian.  Below is a list of initial responsibilities that you would lead, in which will lead, direct, and supervise two groups of activities, but not limited to: 

High Quality Project Delivery:

  • Conceptualize design projects with creative ideas based on specific client and community needs. 
  • Develop strategic plans for projects, including project activities, budget and schedule
  • Management of Project Management staff, designers, and contractors
  • Oversee all Radian projects
  • Work closely with Operations Director in project budget and financials
  • Lead social equity projects and engagement with communities
  • Direct initiatives and projects 
  • Direct the design and graphics for organization 
  • Manage and grow schematic design projects 
  • Assist Executive Director with project proposal creation 
  • Coordinate project needs with P.M.’s and designers 

Firm Strategy/ Operations:

  • Manage P.M.’s, staff, & subcontractors for existing and future projects
  • Manage organizational financial flow sheet with Operations Director 
  • Manage all existing grants/ contracts and financial budget compliance and work with each P.M.
  • Task based project management platform for design team
  • Putting together proposal content alongside Executive Director  
  • Coordinate project/ grant specific needs with P.M.’s 
  • Assist with business plans and strategies for spin-off initiatives 
  • On-boarding and off-boarding of projects
  • Translate our advocacy and outreach work into contract/ implementation work

Qualifications

  • High organizational skills and track record of balancing multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated experience in community-centered design and advocacy
  • Degree in architecture or related field
  • Experience in managing teams and personnel
  • Experience in project management, urban design, community engagement. Advocacy and policy work a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong research and data analysis skills
  • Comfort with public speaking
  • Experience with direct civic engagement, including but not limited to: organizing a design charrette or workshop or hosting a community forum
  • Fluent in Revit, Autocad, Sketchup, and Adobe Creative Suite 
  • Bilingual, a plus

Compensation

  • $80,000-84,000.  Based on experience 

Commitment: This position is full-time salaried employment.  The Director of Design will report directly to the Executive Director.
