Can I self-report an HSW Credit?
As of December 2012, AIA Members can only self-report credits with an LU designation. HSW credits must be reported directly to AIA National by an approved continuing education provider
I am interested in becoming a registered continuing education provider, where can I find more information?
What if I took a course and my credit is not showing on my transcript?
If you took a course through an AIA provider and the course does not show up on your transcript within 10 business days of the date in which you took the course, call AIA National at 800.242.3837 (option 3) and provide the name of the course, the provider name and course number and they will contact the provider. If the course was organized by AIA Colorado, contact us at 303.446.2266.
As a newly licensed member, am I required to earn LU hours?
New, first-time members of the AIA and members who upgraded from Associate membership are not required to complete the annual 18 LU hour (12 HSW) during the calendar year that they join. Your requirement will begin January 1 of the following year. However, records are kept for those who submit their activities. Please note, any credit received in the first year will not apply toward the following year’s requirement unless the member exceeds the 18 LU hour (12 HSW) requirement.

All licensed architects in the State of Colorado are required to obtain 12.0 HSW Continuing Education Hours (CEH) per calendar year. Carryover between calendar years is not accepted and the current renewal period ends Oct. 31, 2015.
Subsequently, you may be audited; at which time you must provide proof that you have complied with the continuing education requirements outlined in the board rules and you will be required to submit completed documentation in the form of a Continuing Education Structured Form for each CEH earned.

Planning a new home, remodel or renovation? Work with an AIA Colorado Architect or Professional Affiliate member! Working with an AIA member can save you time and money by making your new spaces more functional, comfortable, efficient, and environmentally responsible.
Why should I hire an AIA architect? Few people realize how complicated it is to build – until they find themselves lost in the maze of design options, building codes, zoning laws, contractors, and so on. No two projects are exactly the same, so there is no single, clear-cut path. An architect is a qualified professional with the education, training, experience, vision, and license to guide you through the entire design and construction process, from helping you define what you want to build, to helping get the most for bang for your buck.
